Quarter 4 and Semester Reflection

Quarter Four

In quarter four of e9, we were assigned to groups and had to create a fake product. We spent the entire quarter creating animations, graphics, a video, and a website for our product. My team decided to create an app called YOUnique Boutique. This is an online shopping app that allows its users to virtually "try on" clothes before purchasing them. The whole project took the entire quarter.

My team faced many challenges such as poor communication and technical confusion. None of us were very good with the website, so creating it proved to be very difficult for us. This project helped me to learn a lot about web design, video, and graphic design. I also learned more about what to do and what not to do when giving a presentation. My team was told that we could have been more prepared for our presentation and should have had more on the "Meet the Team" section of our website. We were also told that our video was well made and our graphics were cool. We made many changes along the way in our website and graphics. Our logo was originally much different than our final product. I am pretty proud of the work I did in fourth quarter, especially the website since I started out knowing absolutely nothing about web design.

Use of Time

I used all of my time in class to work on the project in some way. Most of my time was used either creating graphics, the video, or the website. I didn't have any down time. I always had something more to do, especially since half my group did absolutely nothing on the entire project. Sometimes I do some research outside of class in order to better understand what I have been working on in e-Communication.

My Strengths and Weaknesses

My strengths are time and project management. I am very good at getting my work done and knowing how much time I have. I try to organize everything so that I know exactly what I need to do.

My biggest weaknesses are technical skills. I have never been very good with computer and technology, but e-Communication is definitely helping me improve on those skills. I keep trying to get better and I think I have been learning a lot about technology.

My favorite thing about this semester was figuring out more about web design through lots of trial and error. It was very rewarding to be able to figure that out on my own. If I could do this semester over again, I would be more strict with my group and try harder to get them to contribute to the group project. My overall takeaway from this semester was you can't rely on anybody else. You have to do everything yourself if you want it to get done. One goal for next year would be to get more comfortable with the technology and just generally expand my skills.

Videos I watched a few videos to start learning about typography. Although they weren't always the most exciting, I did learn a lot that I didn't even realize I needed to know. I learned about how critical fonts can be in getting a message across and how they are often the first impression that a consumer gets of a product. I then started to learn a lot about the technical side of typography. I learned that bracketed serifs are curved whereas unbracketed serifs are sharper. I learned what type families are and how you can properly use them to their full potential. ONW Procedure Video

My first video project of my sophomore year was creating a video that showed how to go through a basic procedure at ONW. My group decided to show how to get a pass and go to the restroom. Initially, we were going to show what not to do as well as what you should do, but I decided to cut that out of my edit in order to make the video shorter. We had to start the process with coming up with a concept for the video. Luckily, we came up with the idea of getting a pass and going to the restroom fairly quickly. Once we did that, I wrote the script and the other group members created the storyboard. We were supposed to start filming the next day, but we got faulty equipment so we couldn't start until the next day. As far as our cast list, we just used the people in our group as actors in the video so that we wouldn't have to disturb any other groups or classes. My 10 Strengths Animation

Process For this project we had to come up with ten strengths that we possess. The ten that I came up with are  writing, honesty, loyalty, logical, intellectual, creative, patient, helpful, supportive, and humorous. I had to ask some friends to help me come up with some of them, which was very helpful. After we came up with these strengths, we had to find a photo to use as a background for our animation. I chose a large, old library because I love books and antiques. We then had to arrange our words on the background using different layers. In order to make them look pleasing, we had to experiment with fonts, sizes, and colors. Finally, we got to the animation part. unlike the last few times, we used the video option in photoshop to animate this particular project.
