ONW Procedure Video
My first video project of my sophomore year was creating a video that showed how to go through a basic procedure at ONW. My group decided to show how to get a pass and go to the restroom. Initially, we were going to show what not to do as well as what you should do, but I decided to cut that out of my edit in order to make the video shorter.
We had to start the process with coming up with a concept for the video. Luckily, we came up with the idea of getting a pass and going to the restroom fairly quickly. Once we did that, I wrote the script and the other group members created the storyboard. We were supposed to start filming the next day, but we got faulty equipment so we couldn't start until the next day. As far as our cast list, we just used the people in our group as actors in the video so that we wouldn't have to disturb any other groups or classes.
The process of actually filming went fairly smoothly. I was the main cameraman, one group member was the main actress, and the other member did some acting and some camera work. We got most of our shooting done in one day and it was nice to get it done with that quickly.
After we got all of our scenes shot, we just had to edit. All the team members split up and we all did our own edit. Like I mentioned earlier, I ended up cutting out a lot of the scenes so that my video could fit in the time limitations.
I learned a lot about camera work, editing, and teamwork through this project. Since I did most of the camera work, I learned more about just in this project than I have in most other projects I've done. I also discovered more about editing. I've never been very good at editing so I feel like I learn a little more every time I do it. Since my team had a few disagreements about this project, I gained experience in teamwork, communication, and collaboration.
If I could do this project again, I would have shot only the scenes I needed so that filming wouldn't take as much time. I also would have taken a little more time to edit my video and make it as flawless as possible. However, I am pretty content with the overall product, especially since it was my first video of the year.
In my next project, I want to use a little more creativity and explore what I can do with editing. Hopefully, I can pace my time a little bit better so that I have more time to do what I want with my video.
