ONW 1 in 2000 Interview
For our first interview of the year, my group decided to interview Ramal Nasim. We decided to interview her because she went to Pakistan over the summer and we thought that she would have some interesting stories and information to share. After we decided who to interview and assigned production roles, we had to create a storyboard to outline what we wanted the video to look like. We then had to write 21 interview questions, which was actually fairly quick. Once we were done with the Pre-Production, we were ready to shoot. The location that we had originally planned to shoot in did not work out due to other classes needing the space, but we were able to find a good alternative fairly quickly. When we finally found the right location, we started shooting. We got off to a bit of a rough start and had to start over a couple of times, but we ended up with a lot of good content. Since we got done with filming our planned questions early, we asked a lot of follow up questions which also led to very good results. After we finished filming, we had to start editing. I ran into a few difficulties with the size of the b-roll but was luckily able to fix it. Editing has never been my strong suit so it took me a while to a place where I was happy with my video. I knew it wasn't perfect but it was the best that I could do. After peer reviews, I decided that I needed to add a sign-off at the end of my video.
My role in my team was to be the art director. This means that I was supposed to create the storyboard and make sure that everything looked good. I have never been very good at storyboarding so I was able to learn a lot about it through this experience. Although I was the art director, my whole group worked together on everything so I was also able to help write the script and direct. I also learned a lot about technical skills such as editing and handling the camera. I learned how to resize photos and videos in Premiere Pro and I learned how to adjust some settings on the camera.
If I were to do this again, I would like to add some more voiceovers and better transitions. I would also want to make sure that the interviewee wasn't looking too far off from the camera and make sure I didn't have any jumpcuts. However, I would keep most of the content because I think it ended up being a very interesting and informative interview.
I will be sure to use the skills that I learned in Premiere Pro and what I learned about the camera in my future projects. I will also use what I learned about the 21 questions and placement of the subject for the next time I do an interview. Overall, this was a fun project and I feel like I really did learn a lot from it.
