First Written News Story

Olathe Northwest Gymnastics Wins State
The Olathe Northwest gymnastics team won State on October 30, 2017. It was the first time ONW had ever won State. The winning team consisted of freshman Hallie Robertson, sophomore Brooke Illum, and junior Sydney Weeks. They were coached by Mallory West and Alison Krumbiegel.
    The team practiced everyday after school in preparation for this meet. Alison Krumbiegel, the assistant gymnastics coach, said, “Our team has a great talent to begin with, but those girls are the hardest working girls in the gym.”
    The girls on the gymnastics team are also extremely close and push each other to do their best. Brooke Illum, a sophomore on the team, was injured but competed anyway because “she cared so much about her teammates,” Coach Krumbiegel said.
Hallie Robertson also said her favorite part of gymnastics is “hanging out with the other girls because it’s kind of like having another family.”
Winning State was a very emotional experience for everyone involved. Coach Krumbiegel said, “The moment they won, my eyes burst with tears.” Hallie also said that winning State was one of her biggest goals.
Coach Krumbiegel hopes that this will not be the last time the team wins state, and aspires to see many more championships for ONW in the future.

I used the inverted pyramid lead to write this news story. The inverted pyramid is a technique that starts with the most important details and goes into the less important details later on. I tried to use as many quotes as possible but I'm not quite sure if I used them correctly.

 I loved finally being able to write because it is what I have always wanted to do. I came into e-Comm planning on going into journalism and mostly writing, so I was very happy to have this chance to do that.

 I feel like I still have a lot to work on. Since I haven't written a news story in over a year, I was very unsure as to how to go about it. I don't think I used many quotes correctly and I think that I need a lot more content overall. If I were to do this project again, I would probably keep my first paragraph, but change most else.

 I will definitely remember to use the inverted pyramid in my next news story. I will also spend more time on my next story.

 I wish that we had gotten more detailed instruction on how to properly write a news story. It was an extremely short and vague unit and I just wish that we spent more time on it.

ONW Procedure Video

My first video project of my sophomore year was creating a video that showed how to go through a basic procedure at ONW. My group decided to show how to get a pass and go to the restroom. Initially, we were going to show what not to do as well as what you should do, but I decided to cut that out of my edit in order to make the video shorter. We had to start the process with coming up with a concept for the video. Luckily, we came up with the idea of getting a pass and going to the restroom fairly quickly. Once we did that, I wrote the script and the other group members created the storyboard. We were supposed to start filming the next day, but we got faulty equipment so we couldn't start until the next day. As far as our cast list, we just used the people in our group as actors in the video so that we wouldn't have to disturb any other groups or classes. My 10 Strengths Animation

Process For this project we had to come up with ten strengths that we possess. The ten that I came up with are  writing, honesty, loyalty, logical, intellectual, creative, patient, helpful, supportive, and humorous. I had to ask some friends to help me come up with some of them, which was very helpful. After we came up with these strengths, we had to find a photo to use as a background for our animation. I chose a large, old library because I love books and antiques. We then had to arrange our words on the background using different layers. In order to make them look pleasing, we had to experiment with fonts, sizes, and colors. Finally, we got to the animation part. unlike the last few times, we used the video option in photoshop to animate this particular project.
