Music Video
The song that my group chose for our music video was "Thunder" by Imagine Dragons. We wanted to portray a theme of not fitting in/wanting something more than other people expect from you.
Honestly, this whole process was a complete mess. We first had to decide the song, which none of us could agree on. We ended up picking "Thunder", which was the main song that most of us didn't even want. We then had to storyboard and film scape our whole video. One other group member and I were in charge of the film scape while the other two group members were in charge of the story board. We talked a lot between the groups to make sure that we had the same ideas in both of our outlines.
Next, we had to find an actor. This is when our project started to really fall apart. We were trying to film at the same time as a large play was going on, so most people in the theater department couldn't be in our video. We were then stuck with whoever we knew personally to be our main actor. That guy ended up being really nice, but also pretty awkward. This made it really hard to get him to move around and get into the part when we actually got to filming. I tried really hard to show him what to do and tell him to move around more, but he simply wouldn't. We ended up finishing filming with him because we couldn't find a different actor. Due to this, I don't think we were able to to portray the theme that we wanted. When we started editing, we really realized how bad our footage was. However, there really wasn't time to reshoot it at this point, so we decided that we would just have to work with the footage that we had.
My role in this project was supposed to be Director of Photography. However, Mason kept taking the camera from me to do it his way. Because of this, I really didn't get much of a chance to learn anything new or practice skills that I had previously learned. However, I did get a new experience with new group members. I learned that I really need to work on asserting myself more and that I need to have a little more patience when working with people that I don't get along with. I tried to communicate a lot, but I felt like our director just would not listen to me. When I attempted to express ideas our director, Mason, just talked over me and dismissed anything that I said. I also learned a bit about project management. My group procrastinated a lot and had a hard time getting our project in on time. Through this I learned that I need to make sure that we have a proper timeline and that we pace future projects out well.
If I were to do this project again I would do pretty much everything differently. First of all, I would pick a different group. The group that I was with made this project really hard for me and Emma. I would also choose a different song, get a different actor, and pace the work out more. I definitely learned a lot from this project that I will be sure to use in any future projects. I'll be sure to speak my mind very clearly and assertively in the future so that I don't keep getting ignored.
In the end, this project was a disaster. One person took over the whole thing and ignored any ideas other than his. He believed that it was all his project just because he claimed the title of director. I really don't want it to sound like I'm complaining or blaming it all on one person, but I do want to make it very clear that I tried to make this project work and was ignored. Of course, I will take responsibility for what was my fault. I could I have tried harder to make certain filming days work and I could have been more assertive when talking about how I felt while doing this project. I just really hope that I never have to work with this person again and I want to make sure that my next project is much more successful than this one was.
